What a game, what chances. Superb pass from Pereira, excellent performance from CR, Nani (apart from failing to cash CR's cross from 5 yards out). Top notch from Pepe and moutinho. tournament on ladies and gentlemen!

What a nightmare yesterday turned into. The only way it could have been worse was if it was CR7 with the ball of the bar. Would have meant that it would have been replayed like Baggio's miss. Instead, it will probably be forgotten by most non-Chops by this afternoon.

It was wanting and sad to watch them lose, even moreso because I thought they deserved to win on the measure of 90 minutes. They took the game to Spain rather than cower, or park the bus, it was a brave and hard fought performance, that we should all be proud of. Defensively, for 90 minutes the Seleccao made Spain appear mediocre. This Spain team being one of the greatest passing teams of all time (although on decline since WC2010). We intercepted passes and pressed and were patient all in exemplary balance. Attacking, our midfield made a few runs in first half in support, but less so as the game dragged on, perhaps a few more could've been usefull. There were a few errant crosses, and the crispness of our counter-attack passing wasn't quite up to the usual high standard shown in the other games. One inch here or there, one free kick there, and everyone would've been talking about how Portugal outplayed Spain, but to the victor go the spoils, c'est la vie. "I congratulate Spain. We fell, but we fell like a great team should, with honour and with pride." - Paulo Bento
