Have we discussed Breaking Bad?
If not, we should.
I'll begin: Breaking Bad is Mad Men's only competition for best show on television. And by competition, I mean it may be better.

The wife and I just finished season 1 and we're hooked. We weren't sure what to make of it at first, but it's taken off since Heisenberg showed up. I can now understand why Cranston keeps beating out Jon Hamm for Best Actor Emmys. I'll come back to this thread once we're caught up.
For those who are interested - AMC is re-running Seasons 1-3 right now. They're showing 2 episodes every Wednesday at Midnight. Season 2 just started last week

The first 6 episodes did a good job of introducing the core, but the show takes WAY off from there. I'm not sure if I like 2 or 3 better. My only gripe is that they ended season 3 on a cliffhanger. I find those tricks to be cheap and usually underwhelming. The notable exception being the Simpsons knock off of Dallas - "Who Shot Mr Burns?"

I've heard outstanding things - my buddies and I do a DVD season rotation and I'm next in line for Breaking Bad. Just got Dexter Season One but haven't watched yet. Is it as good as they say, or overated?

Great series. My boss turned me onto it and I burned through the first three seasons in as many weeks.

Rax: IMO, Dexter is the most overrated show on TV. I heard people talk about it for years, but the season I watched was very hack.
The primary clue being Dexter providing a voice over during many scenes. "You're too dumb to figure stuff out, viewer. We'll let Dexter tell you what you can't figure out". The guy who plays Dexter is the only good actor on the show.
Breaking Bad's cast is virtually flawless (The handicapped son who actually had Cerebral Palsy is iffy at times; but what can you expect from a Palsy Kid? Am I right or am I right?).

Great series. My boss turned me onto it and I burned through the first three seasons in as many weeks. Agreed, I find Dexter to be the most entertaining show on television today. I hate the long waits between seasons. Also, True Blood is very, very good. Give that a try.

Whoops, I just realized how the order of the posts made it look like I was referring to Dexter. I was in fact referring to Breaking Bad.
I enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Dexter, but after they've acquainted you with the character, I don't think they really have any direction to develop the series toward. Nevertheless, I agree it's a good production too.

**********BUMP*********
I still feel bad about about ruining Mad Men for Razor, so I'm throwing a[glow=red,2,300] MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT [/glow]on this post. If you haven't caught up through season 3 of Breaking Bad, stop reading. ... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Holy . Fucking . Shit! . We just finished catching up last night and as much as I love Made Men, there is no doubt in my mind this is the best show on TV right now. If it wasn't the plane crash, I wouldn't really know where the seasons begin/end - to me, it was just one long season of kick ass episodes.
The only thing I worry about is where do they go from here? Gus still needs Walt, but Jesse is still going to be highly expendable. Also, I read an interview where the creators admitted that they wrote season 3 almost on the fly and deliberately painted themselves into corners and then figured out how to get out of them. They can only go so far with that approach before we get treated to some crappy deus ex machina.
Tim - In that same interview, the Vince Gilligan admitted that the season 3 ending unintentionally ambiguous and that he was definitely killed.

I'm guessing any way out involves getting the wife taking a break from fucking Cranston in the ass. She's tougher than an Army of Mexican hitmen. Pollo Man won't know what hit him.

Just an amazing end to the season. The last couple of episodes were loaded with tension and the payoff was fantastic.
Walter White really is a heartless sun of a bitch. ;D

Does anyone hear like fantasy/sci-fi much like Lord of the Rings? If so you will like Game of Thrones. It's an HBO show, Season 1 is available and complete, they're working on Season 2 at the moment.

Liked the season enough to begin listening to the audio books when I commute to my parents house. Just started the 5th book (A Dance With Dragons).
