I'm not into cold water. My skin repels it... and frankly, it's embarrassing when I walk out.

Hey Rom. What do you think about the Stand Your Ground defense as applied to the Florida case in the news lately.

I'm not familiar with the Florida law...is "stand your ground" akin to castle doctrine or more like "imminent danger"?

It seems to take the Castle doctrine outside the castle, to anywhere. It seems to apply in any situation where you feel reasonably threatened.

Is this about that Zimmerman guy? It's been in the news here too, in typical clueless Dutch media style... apparently Zimmerman is a skinhead white supremacist who receives support from the ultra conservative, anti-government blog Huffington Post. ;D

He should have taken a sauna to relax. Then none of this would have happened.

Well the law here in WI (i checked it) is standard castle doctrine and standard imminent threat...if I'm stupid enough to chase someone down I'm no longer entitled to castle doctrine, but I can still appeal to imminent threat even after stupidly chasing someone, as zimmermann allegedly did, if the chasee turns around and goes beyond his right to self defense and constitutes an imminent threat to life

In order to invoke this doctrine, wouldn't you have to testify, and therefore open yourself up to cross examination?

well if I'm charged my lawyer would decide...if I'm subpoenaed as a witness i guess I'd have no choice, other than invoking the fifth. Most self defense cases where the two doctrines are invoked result in no charges, the Zimmerman case is a rarity and an anomaly. Civil suits are another matter...
